The unique soils with ancient calcareous limestone shale interspersed with
sedimentary clays and fluvial-glacial deposits make for diverse and ideal soils to grow many of the cool-climate European grape varieties. Most plantings to date are Vitis Vinifera varieties such as Chardonnay, Riesling Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. Wine writers and experts are
acknowledging that the wine region's unique terrior is creating exciting new wine styles and distinctive tastes.
